  • Proteins carry out numerous biological functions in the human body, such as growth, development, and cell signaling. Many proteins interact, forming a system that carries out complex functions. In #BehindtheScience, Jen meets Prithwijit Sarkar, Ph.D, a student in biological sciences at the D'Arcy Group in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Texas at Dallas. He shows her how he uses size-exclusion chromatography with multi-angle light scattering detection (SEC-MALS) to measure protein-protein interactions. He's looking for data such as where proteins bind, how many bind, how strongly they interact, and the effect of their interactions.

    Dr. Sarkar uses Waters SEC columns and standards for his SEC-MALS separations and Wyatt Technologies for MALS detection.
