We speak with Dr Jason Shepherd about his group’s discovery of a new type of neuronal communication mediated by the Arc protein. Jason’s group have previously shown the importance of this protein for learning memory, but now they have identified how it forms virus-like capsids that enable a method of communication between neurons that was previously unknown, until now.
