  • Misfolded proteins are believed to be a primary cause of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's. Understanding how proteins function as well as misfunction are critical research steps in finding treatments for these diseases.

In #BehindtheScience, Jen visits the D'Arcy Lab in the Chemistry & Biochemistry Department at the University of Texas at Dallas to see what techniques they're using to understand protein structure and function. One project is studying human and bacterial enzymes targets for protein therapeutics. Kyle Murray, a Ph.D. student, discusses how he's using hydrogen deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX-MS) to understand protein dynamics.
