Got phthalates? We hope not. Jen talks with senior scientist Dimple Shah about how these potential endocrine disruptors are found in food and beverages such as distilled beverages and whisky. While phthalates may not be listed in ingredients, the concern is that they could pass as a leachable from packaging for cosmetics or personal care products, or from a contact material in beverage production into a bottle. In fact, for whisky import to China, a certificate of analysis is required for phthalates. The problem is that screening by GC/MS can result in false positives. Dimple discusses a robust and reliable LC-MS/MS method for quantifying phthalates. Here's the application note: http://bit.ly/2r0kzQ5
