Dr. Jeroen Nieuwenhuis presents the needs and benefits for a point of care (P.O.C) systems notably in emergency area. Dr Nieuwenhuis highlights the main requirements (portability, ease of use, robustness, speed of results ...) and outlines the resulting technical challenges (hardware, software, assay optimisation) that need to be overcomed when developping a P.O.C system. He takes as an example the new Point-of-care Immunoassay platform recently developped by Philips.
