  • The consumer products industry is currently addressing how to continue to produce innovative new products, whilst at the same time assuring consumer safety, without the generation of new animal data. The greatest challenge in this area is developing non-animal approaches to inform safety assessments for systemic exposure. The investigative approach described here attempts to use a set of toxicity related information to determine whether the relative characteristics or behaviour of a new chemical is analogous to chemicals that can safely be used at the predicted consumer exposure level. This talk will describe in-silico methods (QSAR, read-across, text and data mining approaches) that could form part of overall integrated approaches to assuring consumer safety.
