The size used to develop antigens is a very important consideration. The longer the segment of amino acids, the more likely it will naturally conform to a native shape thereby being more likely to cause antibodies to be produced in the native conformation. Antibodies which recognize the natural shape of the targeted protein will more likely be a successful antibody in functional assays.
