Modern pathology can extract tremendous benefits from including microfluidic techniques in its methods. We will report on conceptual and experimental developments in this direction, specifically in single-cell isolation inside standard tissue samples and subsequent PCR determination of malignancy. The reported method would be particularly useful in early-cancer diagnostics, where traditional visual examination is generally insufficient while current biochemical techniques suffer from low signal-to-noise. The full development of the reported method could have significant impact in pathology practice, through rapid, high-confidence diagnostics.
