  • Innovations resulting from science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields have positively touched nearly every aspect of human life. Promoting and supporting diversity across areas including gender, age, race, professional sectors and scientific disciplines plays a key role in advancing scientific understanding. Yet, there is no blueprint for bringing diversity to academia and the world of science. Meaningful diversity will not be achieved unless we invest in efforts to make STEM more accessible and inclusive for women and underrepresented populations. In this episode of Teach Me in 10, Dr. Jeanita Pritchett, who has a deep-rooted passion for helping others find excitement in STEM and considers herself a "Jane of All Trades", will speak about what diversity means and why DEI policies and practices are an important factor in optimizing the science ecosystem. She will also explain how she seeks to address the question of what everyone can do to help create a more inclusive environment. Dr. Pritchett will share steps that need to be taken to effect real, tangible and lasting change in the scientific community, or what Extraordinary Grace calls “The Change Hypothesis”. This hypothesis is the result of more than 1,300 scientists and researchers like yourselves from around the globe opening-up to Grace with their raw and honest experiences when she asked, "Can I be a scientist, and can I still be me?”
