Teflon Free N-EVAP® for PFAS Sample Prep │Organomation

July 14, 2020

For over 60 years, Organomation has been a leading provider of evaporation solutions for testing laboratories worldwide. In response to an increased interest in PFAS, also known as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances or “forever chemicals,” known to be widely used in making products stain resistant, waterproof, and nonstick, Organomation is proud to offer a no-Teflon option on our popular line of nitrogen blowdown evaporators for 2020. We know it is important to eliminate all possible sources of contamination during PFAS analyses, which is why our new Teflon-free models use a PTFE-free sealant instead of Teflon tape to seal the threads of the gas fittings, eliminating potential contamination from fluoropolymers. Every N-EVAP is constructed from 316 stainless steel, anodized aluminum, acetal, nylon, polypropylene, nitrile, rubber, polyurethane, and silicone parts. The new models can be ordered using the –NT option code, for instance a 12 Position Teflon-free N-EVAP, can be ordered under catalog number 11155-NT. Pricing and lead times for our Teflon-free N-EVAPs remain the same as for our standard model blowdown evaporators. Organomation’s 12 position N-EVAP (Cat# 11155-NT) is recommended in the US EPA methods 537.1 and 533; determination of PFAS in drinking water. EPA method 537.1 uses solid phase extraction (SPE) and Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectropmetry (LC/MS/MS) for the determination of 18 PFAS. EPA533 covers an additional 11 PFAS such as PFBA and PFPeA. The new method uses isotope dilution, as well as SPE and LC/MS/MS. Organomaion N-EVAPs are used to dry a mix of methanol and water from the extract before analysis by LC/MS/MS. Both methods recommend a bath temperature of 60-65 °C.
