Cannabis & Hemp Extraction: Process selection and regulation

Speaking in December 2019, Dr. Graham Wood and Jenna Agin from Neptune Wellness Solutions explored cannabis & hemp extraction. Based on personal extraction experiences with different methodologies and an explanation of the basics of polarity and selectivity, this talk explored the process of extraction from seed to final product. Initial investment in extraction equipment, consumables and post-processing steps were also discussed. The talk also covered the advantages of each extraction method when it comes to final product formulation and as discussion of full spectrum versus broad spectrum extracts as well as cannabinoid isolates. Finally, extraction regulations including the removal of solvents, third party testing and traceability were explained.
