How do dairy farms test milk's safety? One of the tests performed on milk before it’s brought to market is for aflatoxins, a family of toxins produced by certain fungi that are found on agricultural crops such as corn, peanuts, and tree nuts.

The concern is that aflatoxins – which are human carcinogens – may be present in grains that are used as feed for cows, and that they may pass on to milk. Dairy producers can use a rapid, simple kit designed by VICAM, a Waters Business, to test milk.
