  • Dr Sjors Scheres, Group Leader at the MRC's Laboratory of Molecular Biology, UK, discusses his latest research solving the structure of misfolded tau in Pick's Disease (Frontotemporal Dementia, FTD). Using Cryo-EM the group solved the structure of the misfolded tau protein isolated from the brain of a patient that had died of FTD at the molecular level, approaching 3 Angstroms resolution. Sjors explains how Cryo-EM works, and how the group used it to make their findings. He also explains the impact these fundamental findings will have on the field and human health.
