Postdoctoral fellow Sriram Kosuri highlights the importance of developing new technologies to solve existing problems and address new research questions. Kosuri describes how the Gel Doc EZ system aids the lab's ability to catalog human gene function and better understand who we are by simplifying gel imaging in the lab. He relates how the speed and simplicity of the Gel Doc EZ system not only provides consistently great images with ease but has changed the way the group uses gel imaging systems, utilizing rapid real-time monitoring rather than just taking a final image. Reducing the time to acquire each gel image from 5–10 minutes to a few seconds really makes a difference in the workloads of scientists running 10–20 gels a day!
