Customized Laser Cutting Solutions

For several tissue engineering applications biological materials such as collagen sheets, extracellular matrix or decellularized pericard have to be trimmed to a standardized or personalized size and form. This can be performed by mechanical tools, or as an alternative solution, by ultrafast laser cutting, e.g. TissueTrim.

With the laser microtome TissueSurgeon thin sections of resin embedded undecalcified hard tissue samples (e.g. bone +/- implants, cochlea, TCP scaffolds, tooth) and cardiovascular tissue (e.g. stented vessels, arteriosclerotic plaques) were produced and subsequently stained with typical histological and histochemical stainings.

Laser Microtomy - Principle

In vivo injury of mouse blood vessel by ultrashort laser pulses @30fps. CellSurgeon imaging enables for 3D-reconstruction of the in vivo laser-induced thrombus. The temporal development of clot formation after laser injury was monitored by 2-photon imaging using FITC-Dextran staining in dependence of the tested drug leads to defeat  thrombosis.
